The remains of former Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Gbenga Ashiru, arrived Lagos on Sunday.
The body was flown in aboard South African Airways with flight number SA060.
Ashiru died on November 29 in a South African hospital after a long battle with a terminal disease said to be brain tumour. He was 66.
Ashiru was Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, with concurrent accreditation to Lesotho and Swaziland in 2005
The aircraft, an Airbus 349 -600, landed on the runway at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, about 4.30pm.
The body was received by the family led by Prof Toyin Ashiru and taken out of the aircraft into a waiting hearse
Former managing director of Daily Times, Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi; Mr Olatunbosun Ashiru , Mr. Alaba Okupe , Venerable Oludare Otoki , Venerable Leke Dina , Sir Kehinde Smith and Ambassador Oluwatoyin Lawal, former deputy high commissioner in London and Mr, Niyi Alonge as well as the son of the deceased were on hand to receive the body of the ex-minister.
It was learnt that the brother of the deceased, the Ogun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, flew in with the body
