Husband
and wife were knocked down and killed by a drunken driver of a a Toyota Camry
car in Ode Irele, Irele Local Govnment area of Ondo State.
Aside the
deceased, three of their grand children and another old woman were said to have
sustained various degrees of injuries as the car rammed into all of them in
front of the house.
The
deceased Chief and Mrs Samuel Ododo were killed while they were standing in
front of their house located at Gbaleju area of the ancient town together with
their grandchildren..
Reports
said that the driver of the car, identified as Abisoye Wobo was allegedly drunk
and was coming from a burial ceremony in the town.
He was
said to lost the control of the car and ram into the couple and others in front
of their house.
Vanguard
gathered that the deceased before his death was a notable chieftain of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the local government.
He was
said to have returned from a political meeting and was relaxing with his wife
and grandchildren in front of his house when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The
development irked youths from the town who trooped to the streets and
thereafter matched to the house of the alleged killer and set his house ablaze.
Vanguard
gathered that the killer had to flee for fear that he may be killed by the
protesting youths
His
whereabout since weekend when the incident occured is unknown.
Some
policemen from the town rushed to the scene to curtail the protest from
escalating into a total breakdown of law and other.
Meanwhile,
Vanguard was told that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the
General hospital mortuary while those injured are on admission in an
undisclosed hospital.
The state
Police Command Image Maker Wole Ogodo could not be reached for comment but one
of his aides said the matter has not been reported at the police headquarters
by the Divisional Police Officer DPO of Irele.
He
however confirmed that the office has heard of the incident but not officially
informed by the appropraite quarter.
