PDP campaign organization denies diversion of funds for support groups.

ABUJA- PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO has denied speculations that funds meant for Support Groups have been embezzled by some officials working for the President under the auspices of the Goodluck Support Group,GSG.


In a statement signed yesterday by the Director, Civil Society and Support Groups of PDPPCO, Prof Nick Ezeh, all the Support Groups rooting for the realization of the re-election of President Jonathan were voluntary organizations that have identified with his Transformation Agenda and have been organizing themselves willingly and sacrificing time and resources for this cause

Prof Ezeh who described the insinuation of diversion of funds as”frivolous wild allegations” as none of the Support Groups was sustained by public funds, said, “In order to erase doubts created by these unfounded allegations, we wish to make it abundantly clear that all the Support Groups rooting for the realization of the noble objectives of the re-election of President Jonathan are voluntary organizations who have identified with his Transformation Agenda and have been organizing themselves willingly and sacrificing time and resources for this cause.

“It therefore means that none of the groups are being sustained by public funds as Mr. President is very conscious of his commitment to the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.

“It is for this reason that we earlier set up verification teams to ascertain the genuity of the various Support Groups in order to determine those who are authentic supporters of the President.

“We have been monitoring the activities of All the accredited groups and we now know those who are committed to the cause and those who erroneously perceived the existence of groups as avenues for extortion or the sharing of largesse.

“While we appreciate the contribution and sacrifices of the thousands of Support Groups working for our common good, we wish to assure them that Mr. President is not unmindful of the commitment of some of the genuine Support Groups.

“We also wish to appeal to the Support Groups, especially those that are aggrieved for one reason or the other not to despair now that we are approaching the finishing line of the race. This is not the time to issue threats but a time to gear up for the final push after years of toiling. Our efforts will definitely be crowned.

“We wish to state here for the purpose of clarity that the current recertification exercise being done at the State and Local levels are meant to domesticate each Support Group in their various locations in Nigeria to assist our Presidential Candidate in the elections now that the campaigns and mobilization have almost been concluded. It is not an attempt to witch-hunt any group but a conscious effort to network each individual group to the mainstream of the campaign in every single location in Nigeria.”
