20 out of the 109 senators have so far signed a motion seeking to institute impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan, reports News Day.
The figure is still sixteen short of the 36 required by the Constitution before the President can be served the impeachment notice.

Based on provisions of the 1999 Constitution, 1/3 of Senators must append their signatures to the motion before a impeachment notice can be served.
The senators are following the footsteps of the House of Representatives, who commenced collecting signatures for the president’s ouster with about 200 members already in support.
The impeachment notice in the upper chamber is being collated by a senator from one of the states of the South West geo-political zone.
